Should my Child stay home? A checklist of things to think about.
To Parents and Guardians;
There have been some questions about illness and school attendance. Please consider the following when deciding IF YOUR CHILD IS WELL ENOUGH TO GO TO SCHOOL.
THE ANSWER IS NO IF…
Your child has a fever of 100 or more. STAY HOME FOR 24 HOURS AFTER TEMPERATURE IS NORMAL WITHOUT TAKING FEVER REDUCING MEDICATION.
Your child has vomited or had diarrhea. STAY HOME FOR 24 HOURS AFTER LAST EPISODE AND NORMAL FOODS ARE TOLERATED.
Your child is SUSPECTED to have a communicable disease such as PINK EYE, SCABIES OR IMPETIGO, and OR HEAD LICE.
Your child has a rash that may be disease related or you do not know the cause. CHECK WITH YOUR FAMILY PHYSICIAN BEFORE SENDING THE CHILD TO SCHOOL.
Your child has started an antibiotic. You are encouraged to keep your child at home for 24 hours after the first dose.
no treatment except first aid is permitted IN SCHOOLS without doctors orders. students will not be permitted to visit the office for routine, non- emergency, complaints.
If you have questions about your child’s illness, please call your doctor. If you have questions about school attendance and treatments allowed, please call the school nurse.
If your child will be absent, please call the school.
If your child needs to go home, you or your emergency contact will be notified to pick up your child, who will wait in the office. Please keep numbers up to date by always calling the school with changes.
YOU CAN improve your child’s immunity and reduce the number of back to school illnesses! ensure your child is getting at least 8 hours of sleep per night. discourage sugary snacks and drinks. make sure your child knows to drink lots of water and wash hands after every bathroom visit. above all, get fresh air, exercise, and stress relief by going out to play every day!!!
