The Moth

The moth is a very small insect. It only gets up to about 70 millimeters. That is about 1 1/3 inches long. That's sort of large for an insect. It's about the same size as a butterfly.

The colors of the moth are very unique. It can be many colors such as yellow, green, black, red, purple, brown, and also blue. Because of the moth's colors, they sometimes are mixed up with the butterfly. Luckily we have scientists who can figure things out like that.
Because the moth is nocturnal, it has two compound eyes on each side of its head. That way it can see its predators in the dark, and to stay safe. Without their unique eyes, they wouldn't be able to see as well as they do. They could even be endangered because they wouldn't be able to see at night so their predators can catch them more frequently.

The moth eats very different things compared to other insects. They eat damaged trees and cloth when it can get its wings on it! Where do moths get cloth to eat? Some people live in the rainforests so they just eat off their cloths.

Even though the moth doesn't have much in common with humans, they do have at least one thing in common. The female lays her eggs in clusters on the leaves of the mistletoe. In other words, the female moth and the female human both produce the baby.
